Laser Cataract Surgery

laser surgery Newcastle

Laser cataract surgery is an exciting new technique for removing cataracts in the eye. The traditional procedure involves using knives to make incisions in the eye. With laser cataract surgery, a laser is used to make all the incisions in the eye as well as dissolve the lens before it is aspirated from the eye. The result of using laser is a much more precise, fine surgical procedure with possibly reduced risks as far as inducing trauma to the eye goes during surgery. It is also known that patients undergoing laser cataract surgery will have slightly superior results in terms of their vision compared to traditional cataract surgery.

Laser cataract surgery is not covered by any fund at present. It attracts a $1,200 technology fee which is payable to the company that owns the laser (Alcon). The laser platform used by the doctors at The Eye Specialists is the Alcon LenSx machine. This is a state-of-art laser cataract machine and is the most widely used laser cataract machine in the world currently.
